At Panorama Kitchens, we have always strived to stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring that our operations are efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible. In recent years, the rising cost of energy presented a significant challenge, with prices increasing by approximately 40% following the last price cap rise. As a business that values sustainability and long-term financial stability, we knew we needed to explore alternative energy solutions that would reduce our reliance on the grid and help us cut costs.
To achieve this, we explored how we could integrate renewable energy to reduce costs and improve efficiency. It seemed like a viable option, so we approached Shawton Energy to assess its feasibility. Following a comprehensive site assessment, it was clear that this would be a highly beneficial step in the right direction. Partnering with Shawton Energy, we implemented a fully funded solar energy solution that enables us to generate our own clean energy while maintaining seamless operations.

The Challenge
As a manufacturer operating in a competitive industry, managing operational costs efficiently is essential. The increasing cost of power posed a financial burden that required immediate action. We also recognised the growing importance of sustainability, not just for regulatory compliance but as a commitment to our clients and the environment.
However, the biggest concern was ensuring that any solution we implemented would not disrupt our day-to-day operations. With a busy production schedule, we could not afford extensive downtime during installation or ongoing maintenance.
The Solution
After exploring various options, we opted for a 222kWp Solar PV system, fully funded through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) spanning 25 years. This innovative approach meant that we could benefit from solar-generated electricity at a lower fixed rate without the need for upfront capital investment. The solution aligned perfectly with our goals, reducing energy costs while reinforcing our sustainability efforts.
Implementation and Process Initially, we had some concerns about committing to a long-term PPA lease agreement, but Shawton Energy’s senior contracts manager worked closely with us to address all questions and provide full transparency. Their expertise and professional approach reassured us that this was the right decision for our business.
Despite challenging weather conditions during January, the project was delivered on schedule with a strong emphasis on health and safety. Throughout the process, Shawton Energy maintained clear and open communication, promptly addressing any queries and ensuring that installation took place without disruption to our daily operations.
The Outcome
Since installation, we have seen immediate benefits. Twenty percent of our total energy consumption is now supplied by solar power, significantly improving our energy efficiency and resilience. While it is still early to quantify the full financial savings, the system has already contributed to CO2 savings of 933.6kg, the equivalent of planting 56 trees.
Additionally, our clients have responded positively to our commitment to sustainability. Many businesses are prioritising environmentally responsible suppliers, and this initiative has strengthened our reputation and competitiveness, particularly in the tendering process.

Our Experience with Shawton Energy
Diane Wells, our managing director, reflects on the project:
“From start to finish, the project was carried out with finesse and expertise. Shawton Energy’s representatives were extremely knowledgeable about the solar industry, and the benefits were presented clearly from the start.
We were informed where every piece of equipment would be installed and felt very involved in the whole project. The contractors ensured a clean site daily, and despite weather delays, we were kept informed every step of the way.
The installation process was seamless, and we now have access to a solar app, allowing us to monitor our energy generation and carbon savings in real time. We are proud to be making a difference in reducing our carbon footprint, and this initiative has become a valuable asset in our business operations.
I would not hesitate to recommend Shawton Energy for any solar project.”
Final Thoughts
By embracing solar energy, we have taken a proactive step toward reducing operational costs, improving sustainability, and enhancing energy resilience. Shawton Energy’s fully funded model allowed us to achieve these benefits without upfront costs, ensuring a sustainable and financially viable energy future.

Recent Achievements
Over the last month, 50% of our energy usage has come from solar power, and the CO₂ emissions saved currently stand at 2,995.2kg, which is the equivalent of planting 181 trees. This significant milestone underscores our ongoing commitment to sustainability and the effectiveness of our solar energy initiative.
